Hi there,

I've just upgraded the Slideshow module on one of our clients sites from v1.4 to v.4.1.  The site crashed and the following error was reported:

Unhandled Error
Error Details
File
Error   '', hexadecimal value 0x07, is an invalid character.

We've restored the server to an earlier time.  Any ideas what may have caused this?

Our reason for upgrading was that v1.4 stopped showing the slideshow images.

The restored site shows the new module version but the images are still not showing.

You can see the dev site at http://mcf.host100.co.uk

It's running on DNN 4.9.0

I look forward to your thoughts.

Hello,

Upgrade from V 1.x to 2.x or later is not possible. You can only upgrade from 2.x to 3.x, 4.x or later.

You need to uninstall the module and install the latest version again. notice you don't need to upload images again.

Many thanks. I'll do that.

In the meantime, I've uploaded the v4.1 module to a dev site that hasn't used the old version before. No images are showing (even the images/icons in the admin areas).

The url's for the images should work but don't. Does this have something to do with imagehandler.ashx calling for imagehandler.ashx.vb (which I can't find on the system).

As mentioned, we're running DNN 4.9.0.

This is not slideshow issue. you or your hosting provider is using a tool what does not allow dot (.) in folder name.

If you type http://mcf.host100.co.uk/DesktopModules/Markit.SlideShow/ in your browser, you will notice nothing will be displayed how ever if you type http://mcf.host100.co.uk/DesktopModules/ you will see browser finds desktopmodules folder.

So contact to you hosting provider to fix it.

Ah, many thanks. I know that our hosting provider had been upgrading the servers during the week which is when the 2 existing slideshow modules stopped working.

I'll get in contact with them.

UPDATE:

Just for reference. The problem was caused by a Microsoft product called URLScan that had been installed on the server. It wouldn't allow folder names with .'s in them.

Once it had been turned off, all worked well again.

what steps were taken to uninstall the urlscan and is it just the urlscan or something else too that can cause the issue?

Any updates will be helpful.

Thanks,

Wasay

For server:
URLScan may cause this issue.

For DNN:
any URL re-writer like IFinity URL master
